Star Warswas a primarily movies-based franchise for decades, with both the original trilogy spanning 1977 to 1983 and the prequel trilogy spanning 1993 to 2005. However, in 2008, Star Wars changed the game by introducing its first canon animated TV show: Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Although it took some time gaining momentum, it is now largely considered one of Star Wars' best TV shows, and it has led to an explosion of other shows. The franchise has been heavily geared toward live-action shows of late, with projects like The Mandalorian and Andor becoming particularly popular.
