Though Star Wars' sequel trilogy was undeniably financially successful, its critical reception was less than stellar. Star Wars: The Force Awakens recaptured the magic of George Lucas' galaxy but repeated A New Hope's story; Star Wars: The Last Jedi introduced interesting concepts but sidelined some of the franchise's most important characters; Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker veered off course and leaned too heavily on the audience's nostalgia.
