The Summer I Turned Pretty, adapted for the screen from novels by Jenny Han, was quick to become a massive hit for Prime Video and has taken the lead in a whole new resurgence of teen drama. While the teen drama genre has been alive and well, seeing shows that don't focus on the complexities of high school itself and instead linger on the interpersonal dynamics at play between its characters is refreshing. Rather than sticking to the by-the-books definition of what a teen drama can be, TSITP has broken out of the mold, finding immense popularity in the process.
