It’s been four years, but at long last, Sword Art Online’s next project has finally received a major update. During Sword Art Online’s 10th anniversary celebration in 2022, it was announced that a new movie was in development following the premiere of Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night. In the years that followed, though, nothing has come of that announcement, and the franchise, in general, has been largely inactive outside of video games.
