When Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, they quickly moved to set up a new trilogy of Star Wars films, with plans to bring back Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. They also put plans in place to release one Star Wars movie a year, and switch off between a spin-off film and a sequel trilogy film each year.
