The presence of Doctor Who's new companion could easily have opened up a familiar plot hole for the long-running British sci-fi, but I'm incredibly relieved that the upcoming season is choosing to avoid canonical issues by directly addressing Russell T. Davies' decision to use the same actor twice. Although the actor's role in the Doctor Who season 15 cast may be new, the actor playing the incoming companion has already embodied a character within the show's storied history. This is something the show has dealt with before, but it's not always explained, nor is a big deal always made.
