Jon Snow's Targaryen lineage may not have mattered too much in Game of Thrones, but he did repeat part of his family's history at the end of the show. Game of Thrones' ending infamously saw Jon Snow kill Daenerys Targaryen, and Bran Stark then become the new ruler of Westeros, setting up a bold new future for the continent. However, it's one that's also reflected in its storied past (which Bran should know, as the keeper of said stories).
