The DCU Arkham Asylum show being officially canceled has destroyed the franchise's best way to break a sad trend when it comes to Batman movie villains. After being in the works for four years, the Arkham Asylum series' cancelation was revealed in July 2024, though the report did notably suggest there was the possibility that a new DC show based around the facility could be developed in the future. As one of the two announced DCU Batman projects, the series' closure naturally came as a sad surprise for many looking forward to the installment's release.
