Almost 18 years since it premiered and 11 years since it (first) ended, Dexter has found a new home on Netflix, and its arrival on the streaming service lines up perfectly with Showtime's plans for the show's future. The first season of the crime drama television series was based on Jeff Lindsey's 2004 novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter. But the show's popularity and positive reviews resulted in seven more seasons, all of which were separate from the book while still using the same cast of Dexter characters.
