Divergent has a couple of twists when the plans of Erudite and Dauntless are revealed and Four (Theo James) is taken by the former, but even though he's manipulated to kill Tris (Shailene Woodley), he doesnt. In the 2010s, young adult novels, particularly dystopian ones, found success in being adapted to the big screen, and among them were Veronica Roths Divergent books. Directed by Neil Burger and released in 2014, Divergent took viewers to a post-apocalyptic Chicago many years into the future, where a war led to society being divided into five factions to maintain peace and a fair societal system.
